(CNN Spanish) --

It was like a gigantic explosion with large stone columns that seemed to emerge, straight, firm, from the depths of the earth, from the oldest and most ancestral of our dwelling.

A beautiful explosion to burst into a frozen formation that could reach God himself and that, of course, defied the gravity of men.

The first time I saw it, it seemed unreal, magical, outside the architectural logic to which I was accustomed.

The then 8 towers rose towards a Mediterranean sky contradicting my idea of a church or temple.

A forest of forms had sprouted that played with gravity while showing its roots, its shoots, its trunks that supported that great shelter of faith.

It was a temple, that of the Sagrada Familia, and construction began on March 19, 1882 in the heart of the Eixample, or Ensanche, with the intention of ordering the urbanity of a city that rebels against rigid structures.

Behind its groundbreaking design, its creation: a Catalan, Antoni Gaudí, who at only 31 years old took the reins of the works giving him his personal imprint, creating something masterful and that, 140 years later, is still under construction...

Because immortal works have their own time.
