Hamburg – The war in Ukraine has been raging since the end of February 2022. Time and again it is said that the Russian leadership underestimated the resistance of the Ukrainian population.

According to press reports, almost 15,000 international volunteers have already entered Ukraine and joined the Foreigners' Legion.

Meanwhile, Hamburg's Interior Senator Andy Grote is warning of anti-Russian sentiment.

While the motives of those interested in fighting vary, all who wish to join the Foreign Legion must meet the same requirements to fight in Ukraine.
As the NDR reports, interested parties must show ID and a certificate of good conduct and would be asked about their combat experience.
According to the report, they will then be received in Ukraine by the local army and given a crash course in combat.

The volunteer fighters from Hamburg and elsewhere are standing alongside the Ukrainian army in the war zone, facing an opponent who, at least in terms of numbers, is almost overwhelming.
According to the International Institute for Strategic Studies in London, the Russian armed forces are the largest military force in the world. The Russian army, navy and air force are said to have 900,000 soldiers and 2 million reservists.
