Corona: "Deltakron" was first detected in Germany - epidemiologists are now even warning of the summer

The new hybrid variant "Deltakron" has apparently already been identified in Germany.
An epidemiologist is concerned about this and sees potential dangers.

In Great Britain, some corona cases have already been recorded with the variant unofficially referred to as "Deltakron".
The RKI has
now confirmed the first case in Germany to the

However, scientists cannot say much about the new mutation.
It seems clear that it is a recombination of the Delta and Omicron variants.
The Munich corona expert Clemens Wendtner assumes “that people were infected with delta and omicron at the same time and then genetic material from both viruses was mixed.” This then resulted in the hybrid variant.
The epidemiologist Timo Ulrich sees it similarly.
He told the news portal

: "The new variant could receive genes for the spike protein from the omicron variant and pathogenicity factors from the delta variant".

It could be that "Deltakron" contains the bad qualities of the two original variants.
Ulrich warns of the potential danger.
"A high level of contagion as with Omikron and severe Covid-19 courses as with Delta in the third and fourth waves." According to him, the potential of this variant alone should "be reason enough to vaccinate as quickly as possible across the board."
The big question now is how assertive the hybrid variant is.
"The more viruses we circulate at the moment, the more we increase the risk that such variants will continue to spread," Ulrich told

With regard to the development of the pandemic, Ulrich is not only concerned about the hybrid variant.
"We have to worry about the summer, above all, because the omicron wave will be very broadened due to the BA.2 sub-variant and our negligent behavior with a 'Freedom Day' from March 20th." that Germany is not going into a "summer relaxation" but is experiencing a "plateau phase".
“With consistently high numbers of new infections, hospital admissions and deaths, which could then be followed by an autumn wave.”
Nevertheless, Ulrich is also concerned about "Deltakron".
"But if Deltakron prevails, which cannot be said with certainty, we would have a situation like we did about a year ago," he warns in an interview with
