Daraa and As-Suwayda-SANA
The first fruits planted in the Yarmouk Valley in Daraa and the almond trees in As-Suwayda were damaged as a result of the frost wave and the drop in temperatures during the past few days.
The Director of Agriculture in Daraa Governorate, Engineer Bassam Al-Hashish, explained in a statement to SANA reporter today that the damages affected the crops of squash, potatoes, beans and greenhouses designated for the production of vegetable seedlings. Mitigating the effects of drought and natural disasters in the governorate.
The area planted with early vegetables in the Yarmouk Valley is 8,000 dunams.
In As-Suwayda Governorate, the Director of Agriculture in As-Suwayda, Eng. Ayham Hamed, told SANA reporter that there have been damages to almond trees of local varieties that flower early in a number of areas of the governorate due to frost and low temperatures during the past few days.
He explained that the damages led to frost injury to the flowers and the failure to complete their growth, as well as limited areas of some crops with low plastic spending, pointing out that the damages are currently being detected by the relevant committees to determine their exact size and the extent to which farmers can be compensated by the Disaster and Drought Mitigation Fund.
During the past few days, As-Suwayda Governorate witnessed a sharp drop in temperatures, which reached below zero degrees Celsius at night in many areas.
