An ultimately missed goal in the Bundesliga game between FSV Mainz 05 and Arminia Bielefeld on Saturday raised doubts about goal-line technology.
According to the pictures, when Moussa Niakhaté supposedly scored in the 15th minute, referee Felix Zwayer received the signal for the goal via his radio clock with a delay - but Bielefeld's keeper Stefan Ortega had saved the ball on the line.
Mainz – After the intervention of the video assistants Martin Thomsen and Philipp Hüwe, Zwayer looked at the scene again on the sidelines and changed his goal decision.
In the following discussion with Mainz, the 40-year-old repeatedly pointed to his referee's watch.
"SR decision: no goal, reason for the test: ball in the goal?, final decision: no goal," tweeted the German Football Association, which is responsible for the referees.
Goal-line technology has been used in the Bundesliga since the 2015/16 season.

Earlier, U21 national player Jonathan Burkardt scored the fastest goal of the season so far.
The 21-year-old scored after 27 seconds - just as fast as Branimir Hrgota for SpVgg Greuther Fürth in February against Hertha BSC (2-1).
Burkardt has already scored two goals in the first two minutes of the game this season.
