The bodies of the father, of French nationality, of his wife, of the brother and of the grandmother of the latter, of Malagasy nationality, were found with that of the guide in stride.

The body of the couple's two-year-old baby was found on Saturday morning, according to local guides who carried out the search.

"

We were surprised by the rain

," says Sarah, 31, a French resident, who had gone hiking with two friends from France in the canyon on the day of the tragedy.

We met them at the natural pool, at the end of the hike, where they were preparing to leave with their guide.

We turned around at that point, because it was starting to rain... Our guide urged us to run to get out of the canyon as quickly as possible because the water was rising, suddenly.

We heard a huge wave breaking, like a dragon coming behind us

, ”she says.

Showers generally at the end of the day

The rainy season (November-April) is in full swing in Madagascar, but showers usually occur at the end of the day.

"They were trapped

,

" says Olivier Rasambahita, 50, guide in Isalo.

Myself, I have never seen the water rise so quickly, it reached two meters in a few minutes.

The rain fell suddenly, around 1 p.m., which never happens.

I walked my clients back to the parking lot, then I went back to pick up the family and my colleague.

This is where I saw the couple's bodies floating at the entrance to the canyon.
