This is a request that comes from a group of MEPs.

They sent a letter to the Nobel Peace Prize Committee for a change in the rules, to nominate Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.

In principle, nominations for the award have been closed since the end of February.

251 people and 92 organizations have been presented for 2022. The committee must make its choices before designating the winner next October.

But in this letter, the MEPs, where we find the former Estonian Prime Minister Andrus Ansip or the former Belgian Prime Minister Guy Verhofstad, believe "that in the light of events without precedent in history, we respectfully request the Nobel Peace Prize Committee to reopen and reconsider the 2022 nomination process for the Nobel Peace Prize.

“The world is shocked by the images of war coming from Ukraine”

“We believe the time has come to show the Ukrainian people that the world is on their side.

We therefore humbly ask you, the Committee, to consider: extending and thereby reopening the Nobel Peace Prize nomination process until March 31, 2022 to allow for a Nobel Peace Prize nomination for President Zelensky and the Ukrainian people".

According to them, “the world is shocked by the images of war coming from Ukraine.

Millions of families now live in fear, their homes and livelihoods threatened by bombardment and an invading army.

We are witnessing the courage of the Ukrainian people who are resisting this war waged against them by the Russian Federation”.
