The Schwaiger family have many ideas for people from Ukraine who are currently finding shelter in the community.

The commitment of everyone involved is huge.

Schwaig – The terrible pictures of the war in Ukraine leave no one cold at FC Schwaig either.

It quickly became clear that the association wanted to and would help.

He supports an action by the Munich Train Station Mission.

But that's not all.

In order to find housing for refugees as quickly as possible, the district has rented the homeless shelter in Schwaig, which was built last year and is still empty, from the municipality.

The Munich Train Station Mission called on people to pack their bags with food and hand them in at the main train station using the keyword “travel provisions”.

In addition to bread, water, juice, salami and other foods, wet wipes should also be included.

The aim was for the employees of the railway station mission to hand over the finished bags to the refugees arriving at the railway station or continuing their journey.

"We quickly agreed that we wanted to donate 50 bags," reports FC Chairman Robert Jell.

A small team got the necessary groceries and finally managed this number.

For the state league game against FC Holzkirchen, the club set up a donation box at the cash desk and asked the fans to support the campaign.

And that's what they did: In addition to the 50 bags, 1,500 euros were collected - 250 euros from Raiffeisenbank Erding, the same amount from former club manager Christian Ascher (Ascher Catering).

The men's and women's soccer players also donated diligently.

The day before the Holzkirchen game, two Ukrainian women with four children moved into the homeless shelter.

Andrea Hartung from the "Strong Hands" helper group organized the visit to the FC playground for the refugees, so the first bags were handed over directly on the sports grounds.

Jell handed over the remaining 43 pieces to the station mission at the main station.

As of Friday, twelve people live in the accommodation in Schwaig, four women and eight children.

The number changes daily.

With the helper group, the FCS wants to continue to support the refugees, help to make their life a little more bearable in this emergency situation.

There should be further donations for this, because "travel provisions" should not be the last action.

Ascher and his catering team have been cooking for the refugees in the accommodation for a week now and providing them with food and drink.

The members of the helper group offer transport services or help in contacting the authorities.

“The private commitment of the helpers is super important.

Only with your support is it possible for us to help people sufficiently.

The measures taken by the government and authorities are far from sufficient.

It often comes down to speed, and of course our personal network helps a lot there,” says Hartung.

“We help where we can”: Ettal Abbey takes in the first refugees from Ukraine

Help those who need it most and be there for them - this rule of St. Benedict is a central part of life in Ettal Abbey.

Appropriately, the monks have now taken in refugees who have escaped the terrible war in Ukraine.

14 have been there since Tuesday, and the monastery can accommodate up to 50 people.

This includes the FC.

A matter of course for Jell: “Many clubs in the district are so much more than just sports clubs.

They take on a variety of social tasks and are a meeting place for young and old. They also facilitate the integration of different cultures.” The FCS joins the helper groups, private initiatives and authorities in the district.

“Everyone helps together so that we can receive the war refugees here and support them.

This commitment touches me anew every day,” says District Administrator Martin Bayerstorfer.

Search for accommodation

They are also looking for empty apartments, holiday homes or houses that the district can rent in order to be able to accommodate refugees humanely.

The use of existing agricultural housing units, for example for seasonal workers, is also conceivable.

The Real Estate Management department accepts offers on Tel. (0 81 22) 58-13 42 or by e-mail to carmen.mittermeier@lra-ed.de.
