The Tölz police drew attention to a scam using the WhatsApp news service.

Fortunately, a 66-year-old who was contacted reacted calmly.

Bad Tölz - They pretend to be fake police officers or a distant relative on the phone and try to rip off the person called.

The stitches are well known.

Now scammers are not only trying to do it on the phone, but also via the WhatsApp messaging service.

Unknown man pretends to be his son who urgently needs money

On Wednesday at around 1:55 p.m., a 66-year-old Tölzerin received a WhatsApp message on her mobile phone from an unknown person and number.

The sender stated that he was Tölzerin's son, had lost his mobile phone and would therefore contact her under this new number.

He also urgently needed money because he had to pay a bill and asked for a transfer.

Tölzerin reacts calmly and gets in touch with her real sons

According to the police, the Tölzerin acted very carefully and contacted all her sons.

They assured their mother that they had not written a message.

After police research, it became known that within the past two weeks there had been several attempts at fraud using this approach throughout Bavaria.

Police ask that no information be given in such messages

Therefore, the police again ask that when making such calls or text messages, you should be sensitive and prudent before disclosing any personal information or transferring any money.

Personal data should not be communicated over the phone or on social media.
