After corona easing in Austria: Incidence at 3600 – neighboring country reacts and tightens again

The number of new infections in Austria continues to rise rapidly.

After the recently decided easing, the country is now tightening the measures again.

Vienna – Only two weeks ago, Austria almost completely relaxed its corona measures.

The Corona* numbers in Austria have been at a high level for weeks.

The seven-day incidence in Austria was 3600. For Germany, the Robert Koch Institute named an incidence of 1706 on Friday.

Health Minister Johannes Rausch announced the Corona strategy for Austria from April 1 a few days ago.

Included are relaxations in the quarantine guidelines for unvaccinated people and the elimination of free tests.

On Friday evening Austria announced a surprising change of course.

In view of the sharp increase in the number of infections, the country is tightening the reins again.

From the middle of next week, FFP2 masks will have to be worn in public interiors again, Rauch announced.

Because more and more nursing staff are becoming infected and the shortage of staff in hospitals and nursing facilities is becoming increasingly acute, the quarantine rules are to be relaxed.

Anyone who tests positive for the corona virus currently has to stay at home for five days and is not allowed to leave the apartment or house.

According to Rauch, it is being considered whether employees in hospitals and other health facilities should work with a mask under certain conditions or whether the quarantine period should be shortened.

A regulation will be drawn up over the weekend.
