According to preliminary figures, the state of Berlin has spent around 26 million euros on receiving, caring for and distributing refugees from Ukraine.
Berlin's Governing Mayor Franziska Giffey (SPD) named this sum on Sunday in the newly opened arrival center for refugees at the former Tegel Airport.
"That's not all," she said of the spending.
Berlin - social benefits for the refugees are not included in the 26 million euros.
Giffey again demanded that the federal government bear part of the cost.
There must be an agreement on financing by April 7th - the next prime ministers' conference.
The arrival center for war refugees started regular operations on Sunday at the closed Tegel Airport.
Up to 10,000 refugees are to be cared for, registered and forwarded there every day.
