The deliberations of the Meron Disaster Inquiry Committee revealed that the police have not yet been equipped with a system for counting crowds at mass events in the open - and that it is based on assessments by veteran police officers only.

Even at the mass funeral of Rabbi Kanievsky today in the city of Bnei Brak, the police conducted the event without such a system - and the possibility of using such technology at the upcoming Meron celebration depends on the doubt.
This is after a tender was not conducted to locate advanced technology that would meet the need, and this is still in the examination stages.
The Israel Police stated: "As part of the preparations that are taking place these days, various aspects are being examined, in which the audience is perceived. We should note that the Israel Police monitors various technological developments that they can assist in areas related to police activity."
