Major fire near Elbach: The house on a farm has completely fallen victim to the flames.

The extinguishing work lasted all night.

Property damage: around one million euros.

Update from Sunday, March 20th, 4:30 p.m.:

The fire wasn't over yet when the excavators moved in.

Layer by layer, they removed the glowing roof beams of the burning farm in order to clear the way for the extinguishing water to reach the two lower floors.

Excavator drivers and firefighters worked hand in hand until early Sunday morning, before the last flames in the 17th-century residential building of the historic Einfirsthof in Elbach's hamlet of Endstall were smothered.

Not only because of the dimensions - more than 200 men from 15 fire brigades from the districts of Miesbach and Rosenheim were alarmed - unusual operation, reports the responsible Miesbach district fire inspector Florian Dirscherl.

"Normally, when there is a fire on an agricultural property, the fire starts from the threshing floor, not from the house." Here it was the other way around, which is also reflected in the damage to property.

In a first estimate, the police put the amount at around one million euros.

The alarm went off around 7:45 p.m. on Saturday.

When the Elbach, Wörnsmühl, Hundham and Fischbachau fire brigades arrived at the scene in Endstall, the flames were already shooting out of the roof structure.

The emergency services immediately raised the alarm level, reports Dirscherl.

The sirens also wailed in the neighboring communities.

Fire engines rushed in from all directions to prevent them from spreading to the attached threshing floor, which was equipped with round bales, and to the neighboring houses.

Fortunately, the residents had already gotten to safety, and the cattle had also left the barn unharmed, says Dirscherl.

The emergency doctor did not have to intervene, the rescue workers of the Red Cross concentrated on the care and catering of the firefighters.

The district fire inspector reports that they were in great demand during the major fire.

The extinguishing work was difficult for a number of reasons.

The burning courtyard was a plastered block of wood.

Because it was completely on fire in no time, the heat generated was enormous.

"An interior attack was therefore not possible," explains Dirscherl.

The turntable ladder of the Miesbach fire brigade was all the more crucial, with which the emergency services chased the water into the building via the roof structure, which had already partially collapsed.

Meanwhile, the respirators on the ground aimed through the shattered windows.

According to Dirscherl, getting there was also logistically challenging.

Since the farm, despite its proximity to the center of Elbach, can only be reached via a narrow road and there is not much maneuvering space on the property itself, not all vehicles were able to get there.

The Elbach colleagues, who were familiar with the area, then escorted two off-road vehicles from the Schliersee and Parsberg fire brigades via forest paths from the other side to Endstall, reports Dirscherl.

"They even crossed a ford on the Leitzach." The extinguishing water was pumped from a nearby stream via two hose lines.

A stable supply was thus guaranteed.

Truck fire after a technical defect: dense clouds of smoke

It looked spectacular: Dense clouds of smoke rose from a burning truck into the sky on Saturday in the Ludwigsburg district.

The driver was on a country road near Schwieberdingen when the truck's engine suddenly failed, the police said on Saturday evening.

The 57-year-old then stopped the vehicle and found that the engine was on fire.

By joining forces, the firefighters managed to prevent the flames from spreading to the threshing floor.

As reported by the Oberbayern Süd police headquarters, a fire protection wall between the two parts of the building also helped.

According to Dirscherl, the excavators first hoisted the fire debris that had been removed onto hurriedly pulled trucks, which dumped the smoldering cargo onto a field.

This was decided in consultation with the municipality and district office, explains Dirscherl.

A transport would have been too dangerous.

"The wind could have fanned the embers again."

At around 4:15 a.m., the district fire inspector left the scene.

The Elbach fire brigade was on fire watch.

On Sunday, the permanent criminal service of the Kripo Rosenheim began investigating the cause of the fire.

The Miesbach detective is conducting further investigations under the direction of the Munich II public prosecutor's office.

Why the devastating fire broke out in the historic farm remained unclear on Sunday.

Elbach

– The emergency call came on Saturday, March 19, around 7:45 p.m.

"Fire on an agricultural property" was the first report, says the Miesbach district fire inspector Florian Dirscherl.

When the four Fischbachau community fire brigades arrived at the scene at Hof Endstall, the house on the farm was already on fire.

The emergency services immediately raised the alarm level.

The sirens also wailed in the neighboring communities.

Fire engines rushed in from all directions to prevent the flames from spreading to the attached threshing floor and neighboring houses.

The firefighters could only extinguish the farm fire in Elbach from the outside.

An interior attack was no longer possible given the rapid spread of the flames.

The extinguishing work lasted until the early hours of the morning.

The historic farm had to be partially demolished while it was still in use.

This was the only way for the firefighters to reach the last embers in the plastered wooden block construction.

The residents were not injured in the fire, they were able to get to safety in time.

The cattle were also able to escape from the stable.

Although the threshing floor was preserved - also thanks to a fire protection wall - the police estimate the damage to property at around one million euros.

The detective is investigating the cause of the fire.

There is no further information to date, says the police headquarters in Upper Bavaria South.

A detailed report follows.
