North Rhine-Westphalia's Prime Minister Hendrik Wüst will probably only end his quarantine next week and travel back to Germany from Israel.
The state chancellery in Düsseldorf confirmed this to SPIEGEL.
The Westdeutsche Allgemeine Zeitung reported first.
The CDU politician left for a trip to Israel last Sunday.
Shortly after landing in Tel Aviv, a corona test was carried out, which was positive.
Wüst has been in isolation at the King David Hotel in Jerusalem for almost a week.
Wüst would like to adhere to “stricter rules”.
"Prime Minister Hendrik Wüst is still doing well," said a State Chancellery spokeswoman.
The Israeli authorities had informed him that he was "considered recovered according to the specifications of the local health authorities".
However, Wüst decided to base his return journey “on the stricter rules in force in North Rhine-Westphalia or Germany”.
In Germany, the isolation period is currently ten days, but there is the possibility of shortening this if the test results are negative.
The State Chancellery does not say when Wüst last tested himself and what the result was.
