While the demand for corona vaccinations continues to fall, the vaccination center in Peißenberg is preparing to offer vaccinations to all refugees from Ukraine.

District - "The good news is: We have more than enough vaccine there," says the head of the vaccination center in Peißenberg, Christian Achmüller.

And he sounds pretty frustrated by his standards.

The interest in corona vaccinations is currently - to put it mildly - manageable, he reports.

Between 100 and 150 vaccinations are currently given in the vaccination center – per week.

In fact, there is capacity for many times that in Peißenberg.

But currently they are hardly used.

"Why should you still get vaccinated now?" asks Achmüller, with a view to the planned "Freedom Day", when most of the corona protection measures should fall.

And that with record incidences in Germany.

"Those who were not vaccinated and were at least still considering getting vaccinated have largely recovered or will become infected in the coming days," says Achmüller.

And since most protective measures have been removed, there is no longer any reason to be vaccinated, apart from protecting yourself and others.

Everything from the region is now also available in our regular Schongau newsletter and our regular Weilheim-Penzberg newsletter.

With the start of the holiday season, growing demand is expected

The hopes attached to the approval of the protein vaccine "Novavax" would not have been fulfilled.

Just a few weeks ago, it was expected that the new vaccine would make unvaccinated employees in the medical sector reconsider.

As before, they are threatened with being banned from entering their workplace due to the facility-related vaccination requirement.

"The response to our special offers for nursing staff was hardly worth mentioning," says Achmüller.

There is also hardly any need for the new "Novavax" vaccine from the population: "We still have most of it in stock." The demand for four vaccinations for risk patients and people who are older than 70 years is also manageable.

According to Achmüller, he is following the debate in the Bundestag about the introduction of compulsory vaccination with interest.

"However, we are primarily there to implement the political guidelines in practice," he says.

If vaccination is actually compulsory for everyone, “we would have the capacity to implement it”.

Achmüller expects an increased demand for corona vaccinations again at the start of the holiday season.

Because "the situation as to how long booster vaccinations are recognized differs from country to country," says Achmüller.

In Germany, a booster vaccination is - as of now - permanently considered fully vaccinated, in Italy, however, only for six months.

So it could be that one or the other needs a booster vaccination in order to save themselves a time-consuming and expensive test procedure when entering their holiday country.

"It's best to check in advance what applies at the destination," advises Achmüller.

From a purely legal point of view, this cannot be implemented at the moment, but the city council is still sending a clear signal.

In Schongau, too, help for refugees from the Ukraine is provided in a very unconventional way.

The Hotel Blaue Traube is currently a contact point for the district office, 20 refugees arrived on Sunday morning, more will follow.

People don't have much more than their own clothes on their backs.

Vaccination should be offered to Ukrainians

Otherwise, the vaccination center is in close contact with the district office as far as the Ukrainian refugees are concerned.

"The vaccination rate in Ukraine is very low, at around 37 percent," says Achmüller.

Those who are vaccinated would have received the Russian vaccine "Sputnik V" or the Chinese manufacturer "Sinovac".

"There are therefore plans to offer vaccinations to newly arrived Ukrainians who register with the district office," the head of the vaccination center continued.

The vaccination center is currently still working with the full staff, as the employment contracts will not expire until April 30th.
