Many Germans have planned a Baltic Sea vacation in the coming months.

There are currently some corona measures in place here - some of which could last longer.

The Baltic Sea will also be one of the most popular travel destinations for Germans* in 2022, as recently revealed by an analysis by the holiday home portal HomeToGo.

The planned "Freedom Day" on March 20 also promised relaxed corona rules for travelers.

In the meantime, however, some federal states have rowed back.

We have summarized for you what currently applies on the Baltic Sea.

Corona rules on the Baltic Sea: This applies to Schleswig-Holstein

If you want to go on holiday on the Baltic Sea in Germany, you can either

enjoy it in

Schleswig-Holstein

or in

Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania .

However, there are different corona rules in the two federal states.

Schleswig-Holstein was the only federal state to implement the easing planned by the federal government on March 20th.

Therefore

, the 2G and 3G rule is no longer applicable in almost all areas of public life

- including hotels and restaurants.

According to the new Infection Protection Act, masks are no longer compulsory, except in buses and trains and health facilities.

Thus, vacationers on the Baltic Sea can enjoy their stay in Schleswig-Holstein almost without restrictions.

The contact restrictions for the unvaccinated have also been lifted.

Baltic Sea vacation in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania - extension of the corona measures

However, the situation is different in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania.

With a value of

2,462.9 new infections per 100,000 inhabitants

, the federal state currently has the highest 7-day incidence nationwide.

“The situation in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania is still tense and dynamic.

This applies in particular to the situation in the healthcare system.

The load and occupancy rates in the hospitals in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania are higher than ever during the corona pandemic," emphasized Health Minister Stefanie Drese (SPD) after a cabinet meeting.

It has therefore been decided to extend the

transitional arrangement until April 2nd

to make use of.

Until then, the mask requirement in publicly accessible indoor areas and in local public transport as well as the 3G rule in restaurants, tourism and events should continue to apply.

The option for 2G rules should also remain in place for the time being.

Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania wants to make use of the "hotspot rule".

In addition, Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania would like to

extend the corona protection measures by a further three months after April 2nd

.

"We will declare the whole of MV a hotspot," said Patrick Dahlemann (SPD), head of the State Chancellery, on Thursday to the

Ostsee-Zeitung

.

He is referring to the "

hotspot rule ".

", which according to the law can be implemented in the event of a particularly high rate of infection.

With it, countries in affected regions can adopt stricter access restrictions and mask requirements.

Dahlemann has already obtained the approval for the extension of the protective measures from the Federal Minister of Justice.

Holidaymakers would then have to be prepared for the fact that masks would be compulsory in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania at least until the end of June.

"The mask is the most effective tool we have," says Dahlemann.

First, however, the state parliament has to decide whether the "hotspot regulation" for Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania should come into force.
