How can youth work in Bad Heilbrunn be further improved?

The councilors discussed this at their most recent meeting.

They agreed on a subsidy.

– The Heilbrunn municipal council continues to invest in open and mobile youth work.

At its most recent meeting, the committee granted the “Carrier Association for Children and Youth Work Loisachtal” a subsidy of around 11,300 euros.

At the same time, the municipal council decided to explore possible improvements.

The application for a subsidy due to an increase in costs for open youth work was again on the agenda.

If the municipality transferred 3881 euros for this last year, this year it is 5994 euros.

The youth officer Kilian Spindler had a simple explanation for this.

This is how the “Clubbrunn” youth club started in the rectory in May 2021. Last year it was only eight months to finance a pedagogical specialist, this year it is twelve months.

Nothing will change in the monthly payments.

The youth club is one of the three pillars of youth work.

The second pillar is the Don Bosco Club in Benediktbeuern, in whose operation the municipality of Bad Heilbrunn contributes five percent, i.e. around 2500 euros.

The third pillar is the street worker who is out and about in the Loisachtal communities and mediates where there are problems.

A further 2800 euros will be charged for this.

2021 was a difficult year due to the pandemic

The past year was “not that easy” due to the pandemic, Spindler reported.

Operations ran normally from May to December, but then the youth center remained closed for four weeks.

The reason for this: The 2G rule, which was introduced in extracurricular youth work.

"That means: only those who were vaccinated and those who had recovered were allowed to enter the room," explained Spindler.

But the sponsoring association did not introduce this rule, "because we didn't want to turn away any young people".

As a consequence, the employees were sent on short-time work.

When the 2G rule was overturned in January, ten to 15 young people came to the meeting again.

"After the Corona period, that's a good number," said Spindler.

Josef Schwaller asked whether it was really necessary to spend so much money on a pedagogical specialist: "And the traditional costume association, for example, gets nothing, although it also does youth work." Spindler admitted that this question could certainly be discussed.

"The decisive question is what we expect from the youth club." In Steinbach and Oberfischbach there are also youth clubs without a pedagogical specialist, said the youth officer.

"But if there is a contact point in the main town where high-quality youth work is carried out, I don't think that's so wrong." A teacher could advise the young people, for example, if they have problems.

Project work is also being carried out in the Heilbrunn youth club.

Among other things, the young people have already hiked up the Zwiesel with the educator.

The youth club is used alternately by around 30 young people.

The constellation in Heilbrunn is a stroke of luck, since the parish makes the room available to the community free of charge.

Not even for the heating costs would be due.

In addition, the young people are allowed to design the room according to their wishes, "so that they can identify with it".

If the rectory did not exist, the congregation would face a major challenge in finding a suitable space: "The young people would then only have the outdoor hard court as a meeting place."

Rohrmoser: Bringing youth work and club work together

Josef Rohrmoser spoke out in favor of letting the youth club run for the time being, “because the corona months were tough”.

He also advocated bringing open youth work together with club work.

You can take the young people from the meeting to visit the clubs that do active youth work: "Perhaps one or the other would then say: sports club, tennis, rifle club or fire brigade - that would be a nice thing, I could go there on another day of the week .” Friedrich Bauer thought this was a good idea: “But you always have to remember that not all young people have an affinity for clubs.” It is therefore very important that there is an institution that also includes these young people: “An educational specialist is important.

It can have a positive impact on troubled youth.

"The fact that 30 young people are cared for at the Heilbrunner meeting point is a "great number", said Mayor Thomas Gründl.

He called for the social committee to deal with the issue: "We could invite young people to say what they like and what we could improve.

I just don't know if it's all working effectively, or if it should be done differently.” The entire board agreed with this suggestion.
