Defense Minister Bnei Gantz arrived this morning (Monday) at Rabbi Kanevsky's home to comfort mourners, along with MKs Yaakov Asher and Yitzhak Pindros of Torah Judaism. It was great a few months ago to meet him and talk about the unity of Israel. "
MK Asher mentioned the importance that Rabbi Kanevsky attached to maintaining the guidelines during the Corona period, in light of the criticism he received in his life for ordering the ultra-Orthodox education system, despite the high morbidity in ultra-Orthodox cities.
"He really cared about it," Asher said.
"He gave the government time to see how to make sure there were no studies and not to close the education. For him, closing the education was a significant danger to the people of Israel."
To this one of the rabbi's sons added that "this was for him a greater danger than the corona."

Asher added: "After a year, the Minister of Education and everyone else had already started talking like that. They understood that the damage to education was great but in terms of immunization, he was the first to say get vaccinated."
Earlier, Rabbi Gershon Edelstein, president of the Council of Torah Scholars, and the one who, after the death of Rabbi Kanevsky, leads the Lithuanians alone, came to comfort the family members.
The 97-year-old rabbi was asked whether the public should undertake to study eight pages of Gemara a day similar to Kanevsky's supply, and replied: "I wish not everyone at this level."
