Report reveals: Ethiopians and Arabs complain the most about racism | Israel Today

A document published by the government unit for coordinating the fight against racism in the Ministry of Justice shows that 23 percent of complaints about discrimination are in the field of service provision • Head of unit: "Israeli society suffers from racist incidents within the civil service"


The Government Unit for the Coordination of the Fight against Racism in the Ministry of Justice today (Monday) publishes the activity report for 2021, the day on which the International Day for the Fight against Racism is marked around the world.

Over the past year, 458 cases of racism and discrimination have been opened in the Government Unit for the Coordination of the Fight against Racism.

A breakdown of the majority of complaints by referral subjects shows that 23% of complaints are about discrimination in the provision of services, 11% about discrimination in employment, 10% about racist expression in the public sphere, 9% racist / stereotypical public sphere advertising, 7% racist expression in the civil service, 7% on the subject Police, 4% on education, 3% on racist motives.

A segmentation of the main identity of the applicants shows that 24% of the applicants belong to Israelis of Ethiopian descent, 24% belong to members of Arab society, 10% belong to members of ultra-Orthodox society, 7% Jews without identification, 6% belong to Israelis from the former USSR, 4% belong to members of the Eastern community 10% on discrimination against Corona, 12% on another issue.

The Government Unit for the Coordination of the Fight against Racism monitors the implementation of the recommendations of the Palmor Committee on the Elimination of Racism, which have been given the force of a government decision.

The unit's examination shows that as of today, out of the committee's 50 recommendations, 36 have been implemented (72%), one decision is in the process of being implemented and 13 have not yet been implemented.
