The Syrian mother wrote the most wonderful and greatest stories of dedication, sacrifice and patience in the love of the homeland and taking care of her family, whether when she sacrificed the pleasure of her liver or when she watched over her children, especially those with special needs.

On Mother’s Day, Suhaila Ismail, from the village of Al-Mazraa belonging to Sheikh Badr in Tartous, talks to SANA’s reporter about the shock of pain and sadness when she received the news of the death of her son Hussein Ibrahim in 2013, after his greeting to her was a balm that heals the wound of his separation, and she wished he would return safely, but he was martyred to her as a martyr for the homeland.

No sooner had she escaped her shock than Hussein's martyrdom, when she heard the news of the martyrdom of his brother Haider last year.. At that time, Suhaila made sure that the mother's milk who gave birth to them for this day was not in vain for the sake of the nation's pride and dignity, and that Syria is the mother and we all have to sacrifice for her despite the bitterness and cruelty of separation, as Today she will go to her two sons to greet them on her birthday.

Nawal Abdullah, the mother of the martyr Majd al-Ali, from the village of al-Majidil in Sheikh Badr, also lost in 2012 her son, who was martyred during one of the missions in Damascus. She says, “I spent long days crying alone and praying for him for victory and a safe return as he bid farewell to me on his last vacation and asked me to stay strong as He promised me that I would not cry if he did not return.”

The long years of absence and so far have not been enough to make Nawal forget her son, as she still embraces his image and continues to raise his brothers on the love of the homeland and sacrifice for it, whatever the cost.

The sacrifices and patience of mothers were also demonstrated by the sixty-year-old woman, Souad Shamma, from the village of Beit Dahi in the countryside of Baniyas, who was able to overcome the harsh life conditions that she went through due to the infection of her four children with various diseases, two of them with special needs, and her husband’s cancer.

With great faith and inexhaustible maternal affection, Souad asserts that she has never weakened, but rather strived with all her strength and patience to bear the hardship of taking care of them without complaining or refusing.. She explains that her eldest son, Bassem, suffers from a hearing loss of 90%, and that the health status of her children requires special care. Helping them meet their needs, in addition to making sure that they take their medicines on time and follow them up in hospitals and clinics, despite the difficulty and hardship of transportation, because the distance from her village to Baniyas is very far, where health centers and specialized clinics are located, in addition to the high prices of medicines.

Souad’s suffering was not only with her four children, but with her husband’s cancer, which he died of last year after suffering 10 years, explaining that she suffered more after his death, as the children missed him, but as usual, she embraced them with warmth and love and relieved them of the pain of separation from their father.
