A magnitude 6.6 earthquake occurred early Wednesday, March 23 off the coast of Taiwan, the United States Seismological Service (USGS) announced.

According to the USGS, the earthquake, initially estimated at 6.9, struck at a depth of 10 kilometers, 70 kilometers south of Hualien City.
