The president of the Catalan chamber, accused of fraud and embezzlement, demands the support of the ERC and the CUP

The president of the Parlament, Laura Borràs, has asked the deputies this Tuesday not to act "as judges" by applying the article of the Regulations of the Chamber that allows suspending those who are tried for alleged corruption if they finally go to trial for alleged fraud in their stage as director of the Institution of Catalan Letters (ILC).

In an interview on TV3, collected by Europa Press, Borràs has assured that she does not feel "questioned" by this article, since she defends that she has not committed any crime or fraud, and has added that she has not yet spoken with ERC and the CUP on what they would vote on.

In addition, she has argued that this article - 25.4 of the Regulations - violates the presumption of innocence, as it is applied without a sentence, and that is why the legal services proposed to modify it:

In relation to whether there could be a crisis of the Government in case the ERC voted in favor, he has said that "it is very difficult for him to imagine that there are independentists who want to pave the way for the State and repression", and has called for unity and a common front to the independentists.

“Within Junts there is no doubt, and everyone is making a contention that this event is a case of political persecution”, added Borràs, who has insisted that she has always shown her support for all the people she considers to be have suffered repression.

And about a possible rupture of the Catalan Executive, she has said: “If someone wants to leave the Government, let them leave.

If someone really wants to leave the Government because this Government had some objectives and a work plan... You can list it and see it”.

While waiting for the Prosecutor's Office to rule on the case, Borràs regretted having found out from the press that she had been prosecuted in a procedure "irregular from the beginning" and that, in her opinion, it should end up filed.

"The disproportion of the requested sentences will show once again, and will be the proof, of this political persecution", and she has criticized that there are those who already consider her guilty despite the fact that the courts have not yet judged her.

As for whether the head of administration warned her of alleged irregularities in ILC contracts, she has maintained that her decisions passed all the controls of the Generalitat: “When I join the ILC, I am a teacher who starts working for the public administration and who knows the procedures.

Regarding the alleged irregularities alerted by the Sindicatura de Comptes, it has maintained that they are statements that "go out of context" and that any investigation is built on the basis of 'lawfare'.

He has denied having favored any friend with the contracts -as stated in the instruction- and has stated that the Mossos found no evidence of crime when they investigated the case: “And we forgot, because we have the Civil Guard novel.

The judge considers it good, and we all know what reputation the Civil Guard has by making accusation reports”.

Between March 2013 and February 2017, the ILC awarded through Borràs 18 minor contracts related to the programming and maintenance of the institution's web portal, for which it is being investigated for alleged administrative prevarication, administrative fraud,
