Education Bureau extends online science courses for junior high school students to encourage students to take advantage of vacation to study at home

At the beginning of the year, the Education Bureau, in collaboration with scholars and experts from the Virtual University of the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology and the Faculty of Science and Technology of the Hong Kong Metropolitan University, launched the "Senior Secondary Science Online Self-Learning Project", which aims to cultivate students' understanding of science through online self-learning activities.


At the beginning of the year, the Education Bureau, in collaboration with scholars and experts from the Virtual University of the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology and the Faculty of Science and Technology of the Hong Kong Metropolitan University, launched the "Senior Secondary Science Online Self-Learning Project", which aims to cultivate students' interest in science through online self-learning activities.

Due to the special school holiday from March to April this year, the Curriculum Development Office of the Education Bureau has extended the planned period to April 30, so that Secondary 1 to Secondary 3 students can learn by themselves through science lectures and science experiment videos, etc., to encourage more students during the epidemic period. Study at home and make good use of the holidays.


In line with the Education Bureau's goal of continuing to promote STEM education, the Education Bureau launched the "Senior Secondary Science Online Self-Learning Project" at the beginning of the year, aiming to cultivate students' interest in science learning and enhance their scientific literacy through online self-learning activities.

About 110 schools had signed up as of mid-March, with more than 17,000 students enrolled in the program.

In view of the special school holiday from March to April this year, the Curriculum Development Office of the Education Bureau has extended this self-study programme to April 30, allowing Secondary 1 to Secondary 3 students to participate in online science talks, science experiment videos, self-study activities and e-Science quizzes, etc. Study, encourage more students to stay at home during the epidemic and make good use of the holidays.

The content of the plan is closely related to the junior high school science curriculum, covering different topics, allowing students to preview or consolidate what they have learned in the classroom. Consolidate the foundation of scientific learning, and learn to comprehensively apply knowledge and skills in different fields to enhance creativity and problem-solving skills.

The self-learning platform will also give feedback on their learning performance, allowing students to self-check their learning progress.

Teachers can also receive regular e-learning reports from students to keep track of their students' learning progress.

To encourage students to actively and continuously learn STEM, the Education Bureau will issue awards and e-certificates based on students' performance as encouragement.
