A 6.6-magnitude earthquake occurred off the coast of Hualien County, Taiwan on March 23, and the maximum magnitude was 6 in Taitung County. According to Taiwan's Central Meteorological Administration, the earthquake occurred at 1:41 a.m. with a depth of 30.6 kilometers. The epicenter was located near the coast of Hualien County, 62.6 kilometers south of the Hualien County Government.

Areas with an initial magnitude of 4 or higher include Taitung, Hualien, Central, Gaoping and Jianan.
