An affair that makes you feel a slight chill, and raises difficult thoughts and questions about what the truth is and how much trust can be felt in journalists, commercial entities and official institutions that "act in the name of truth".
Last week, Frankenstein came to life from such a terrifying way, in a story in which a US presidential candidate, the major social networks and biased media teamed up to ensure the presidential election of the world's great power would end in their preferred form. Sounds illogical to imaginary? That's exactly what happened.
The "conspiracy" was born in a scoop from the New York Post on the eve of the last US election, in which it was revealed that photos and documents found on the computer of Hunter Biden, the son of the Democratic candidate in the race, prove that the son frequently uses hard drugs and escort girls , And uses his last name and mention of his father to make a fortune in dubious businesses around the world, including in Ukraine - all to the knowledge of Joe Biden himself.
A few hours after the publication, a machine of rendering, lies and concealment began to operate right on the fronts where such a journalistic story was supposed to be resonated and covered.
The Biden headquarters denied the allegations, and US mainstream media outlets mobilized to back up the denial.
The story is false, journalists and commentators have argued.
The next day, unknown security sources claimed that the person behind the publicity was the Russian regime, in order to increase Trump's chances of defeating Biden in the election.
Not long after the lie about the "Russian involvement" was published, social networks also came into action: Twitter decided to block the New York Post's account to prevent the spread of lies, and Facebook began an extensive blocking operation against anyone who echoed the story.
Nearly a year and a half has passed, and this week, in a few lines in the belly of a long article, the New York Times verified the facts about materials extracted from Hunter Biden's computer and thus also verified what appeared to be a frightening dystopia.
Twitter, Facebook and the major media networks in the US mobilized by choice to influence the presidential election, engineered consciousness, hid information, defamed and expelled the "conspirators" and dropped the blame on a foreign country.
And if you thought this was a story left overseas, it is important to note that in Israel, too, local journalists enlisted in the Ministry of Truth and happily adopted the Russian conspiracy narrative, and even now it will be rare to find a worthy mention of this frightening story in the mainstream Hebrew media.
It is difficult to exaggerate the intensity of fear and danger, and it is difficult not to wonder what is being hidden from us here at home today, and in the name of what interest they will try to erase unwanted information from our memory next time.
