The weather in Germany has been mostly nice for weeks.

The sun shines almost every day, the temperatures are rising and there is no storm in sight.

But that's a problem.

Munich - In 2021, spring was unforgettable, especially in southern Germany.

Rainy, cold and not as you would like it to be.

It was also a little colder in the rest of Germany than the average values of 1961 and 1990. In contrast to Bavaria and Baden-Württemberg, there was not enough rain in the north, but the frosty temperatures also made it difficult to enjoy the rain-free weather.

This year, however, things are looking different throughout Germany.

Fantastic spring weather in Germany: sun, warmth and hardly any rain

The calendar spring has only just begun, meteorologically it has been there since the beginning of March and feels a little longer.

The sun has been shining for weeks, hardly a drop of rain has fallen and the temperatures continue to climb.

The last frosty nights are mostly behind us and during the day it will be up to 20 degrees.

And this is how it should continue in the near future.

According to the German Weather Service (DWD), on Monday, March 21, after light rain in the north, “a lot of sunshine will be seen in the rest of the country”.

The temperatures rise in the eastern half to 11 to 15 degrees, in the western half to 14 to 20 degrees, but it stays much cooler on the coast.

On Tuesday night it will be partly cloudy on the North Sea, otherwise mostly clear.

The night remains rain-free.

Lowest values in the north and west and along the Rhine are 6 to 0 degrees, otherwise 0 to -5 degrees.

Tuesday is similar: "A lot of sunshine again".

According to the DWD, it will be a mild 14 to 20 degrees in the afternoon, and it will be even cooler by the sea.

Also for Wednesday and Thursday it says: sunny, dry, 15-20 degrees.

It's going to be the same for the weekend, except for some scattered cloud cover and lows rising to 0 degrees or higher.

And even after that, there is no rain in sight for the time being.

Good weather brings problems: drought means there is a risk of forest fires

Of course, this fantastic spring weather invites you to take trips outdoors, visit a beer garden or have a barbecue in the garden.

But as nice as the weather is at the moment, it is also problematic.

The soil continues to dry out, the groundwater level is falling and the risk of forest fires is increasing.

On the forest fire risk index of the DWD, there is level 3 or 4 out of 5 almost everywhere in Germany. The east is particularly hard hit, where warning level 4 applies almost exclusively.

In the south of Brandenburg there is even level 5. Warning level 1 or 2 only applies in the extreme north and west and on the edge of the Alps. A week ago, a severe forest fire raged near Neuschwanstein Castle.

And with every sunny, warm day without rain, the risk increases.

Weather in Germany: Concern about crop failures due to drought

Agriculture is also suffering from the persistent drought.

As the SWR reports, the farmers on Lake Constance are worried about their harvest.

“Four weeks without rain - you can tell.

It's too dry."

Vegetable farmer Andreas Graf.

Due to climate change, springs and summers in Germany are becoming increasingly warmer and drier.

Many farmers are now cultivating crops that could not even thrive here a few years ago.

"It's getting more and more extreme.

The weather has really become more unpredictable," says vegetable farmer's wife Sabine Graf to SWR.
