District – The Blitzmarathon 2022 starts: From March 24th to 25th there will be increased speed controls by the police in the Free State for 24 hours.
The Europe-wide speed marathon, which is coordinated by the European traffic police network Roadpol, starts on Thursday, March 24 at 6 a.m.
Bavaria is taking part in the 24-hour blitz marathon as part of the 2030 road safety program "Bayern mobil - safe to your destination".
Other federal states are also taking part in the campaign against speeders.
"Driving too fast is the main cause of serious traffic accidents," explains Bavaria's Minister of the Interior, Joachim Herrmann, in the run-up to the ninth Bavarian Blitzmarathon.
Around a quarter of the traffic deaths on Bavaria's roads go back to it.
In 2021, 109 people were killed in speed accidents in Bavaria (a total of 443 traffic fatalities in 2021).
Herrmann continues: "Our lightning marathon is intended to shake all road users awake to strictly adhere to the speed limit.
It's not about issuing as many warnings as possible or sending out notices of fines." All measuring points can be found at www.innenministerium.bayern.de."
The Bavarian police will carry out increased speed controls throughout Bavaria until Friday, March 25, 6 a.m.
A total of around 2,000 police officers and around 50 officials from the municipalities and special-purpose associations for municipal traffic monitoring check the speed at around 2,200 possible measuring points throughout Bavaria, with a focus primarily on country roads.
During the eighth Bavarian 24-hour blitz marathon from April 21, 2022, 6 a.m. to April 22, 2021, 6 a.m., the Bavarian police caught 7,036 speed offenders - despite the measuring points also being published early.
The sad maximum was reached by a motorcyclist who was measured on the St2020 state road near Bubesheim (Günzburg district) at 231 kilometers per hour instead of the permitted 100 km/h.
