The fifth wave of the epidemic is showing signs of easing. The government announced earlier that the Diploma of Secondary Education Examination (DSE) is targeted to start on April 22.
The Secretary for Education, Mr Yang Yunxiong, announced today (23rd) that the target remains unchanged and the latest arrangements for the HKDSE will be announced in early April.
The HKEAA will explore the feasibility of arranging special examination rooms when the epidemic situation eases, but emphasizes that it should not become a loophole in community epidemic prevention.
The Education Bureau maintains that April 22 is the target for the commencement of the Diploma of Secondary Education Examination.

Yang Runxiong said that due to the continuous suspension of face-to-face classes in the past, the class time was greatly reduced. Due to the lack of online classes, students were not able to fully complete the class. For example, classes that required face-to-face or interactive classes were affected, including related experiments and group speaking. Individual tutoring by teachers, etc.
Yang pointed out that the Education Bureau, together with the academic community and the HKEAA, has launched a number of contingency measures, such as streamlining the examination, revising the examination timetable, and formulating a grading mechanism for the HKDSE.
In the past two years, the authorities have streamlined the assessment requirements for a number of subjects, cancelled the Chinese and English oral tests, and adjusted the weighting of the remaining papers in the two subjects proportionally.

Yang continued to point out that this year, experts will continue to be consulted, and the latest arrangements for the HKDSE will be announced in early April.
He expects that the HKDSE will start on April 22 as scheduled.
However, due to the large number of people infected with the virus in the community, students who are worried about being diagnosed or becoming close contacts cannot be arranged for exams.
In addition, there are voices in the society suggesting that special arrangements should be provided for candidates who are diagnosed or under quarantine.

However, Yang bluntly said that he hoped the public would understand that the entire examination arrangement is complicated, not a matter of administrative decision or hardware configuration. It involves the health factors of many candidates and invigilators. Therefore, it is not possible to meet the requirements of individuals without disregarding the health of other students and/or the risk of the epidemic. .
He pointed out that the HKEAA has established a mechanism for fair marking, and will also explore the feasibility of arranging special examination rooms when the epidemic eases.
However, he stressed that the arrangement must not become a loophole in community epidemic prevention.
