There is something new for holidaymakers in Spain – the Canary Islands government wants to lift all corona measures.
However, the President warns against high spirits.
It doesn't matter whether it's the Balearic Islands or the Canary Islands - the Spanish islands are among the most popular holiday destinations among Germans.
In the last, however, it hit the Canary Islands hard: In September, there was a volcanic eruption on La Palma, in which many people lost all their belongings.
Due to the dangerous situation, there was also a lot of uncertainty for tourists*.
The volcanic eruption has been over since December 2021 - and there is hope that there will be a lot of travel again in the new year.
Another factor that could play a role is the Corona rules.
According to a statement on the government website, President Ángel Víctor Torres announced that
all restrictions
would be lifted in the Canary Islands.
Canary Islands vacation: Corona rule on the Spanish islands should be omitted
"It's not the end of the pandemic, of course not, we will remain vigilant," Torres said in his announcement on Tuesday, according to the online portal
teneriffa-news.com
.
Nevertheless, we want to return to some normalcy.
The background is that the utilization of hospitals and intensive care units has decreased despite high incidences, according to the President of the Canary Islands.
According to the concrete plans,
capacity restrictions
in restaurants, cultural activities and public events will be completely lifted.
For the time being, there should no longer be any restrictions in
tourist accommodation or when camping
.
But the emphasis is on “for now”.
According to Torres, it should only be a
temporary suspension of the measures
that can be reactivated depending on the Corona situation in the Canary Islands.
The government wants to make a final decision on Thursday when exactly the end of the restrictions in the Canary Islands will come into force.
However, according to
teneriffa-news.com
, it is to be expected that this will be the case from Friday or Monday.
The current entry rules for the Canary Islands
It remains to be seen whether this will also make it easier to enter the Canary Islands.
The same rules currently apply here as for the Spanish mainland: Travelers must fill out the entry form in the Spain Travel Health portal and present the resulting QR code upon entry.
You also need proof of vaccination, convalescence or a test.
For the latter, PCR tests that are no more than 72 hours old and rapid antigen tests that are no more than 24 hours old are accepted.
