Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, Dr. Faisal Miqdad, affirmed that relations between Syria and Iran are strategic and are always moving forward, pointing out that the two countries are working to overcome the effects of the illegal Western economic measures imposed on their people.

Al-Miqdad said in a press statement after his talks with his Iranian counterpart Hussein Amir Abdollahian at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs building today: We discussed developments related to bilateral relations, which are advanced and always moving forward, as economic exchanges between the two countries increased significantly during the past period, as well as the coercive Western economic measures. Unilateral imposed on the two countries and ways to bypass it.

Al-Miqdad indicated that the US occupation continues to loot Syria's wealth in the Jazira region, including oil, gas, and wheat, and steal even a morsel from the mouth of Syrian children, which has exacerbated the suffering of the Syrian people resulting from terrorism, siege and economic measures.

Miqdad explained that the talks also touched on the meetings of the committee to discuss the constitution currently being held in Geneva, pointing out that Syria is with the success of what is happening, but what it is facing is that the other side, at the behest of its operators, is not working for the national interest.

Miqdad affirmed Syria's support for Iran's principled position that it wants an agreement that serves the interests of its people during the ongoing talks in Vienna on the nuclear file. Nuclear ambitions contradict the agreements to which we have all joined, including the Convention on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons.

Miqdad pointed out that Syria believes that friends in Russia are defending their right to guarantee the security of their people away from the presence of NATO on their borders, stressing that the unjust Western campaign against Russia will not lead to the results desired by the wild West because it defends its sovereignty, independence and people.

For his part, Abdullahian said: We had important talks with President Bashar al-Assad, Minister Miqdad, and head of the National Security Office, Major General Ali Mamlouk, during which we discussed the distinguished relations between the two countries and regional and international developments, and we welcome the development of relations between Syria and some Arab countries.

Abdullahian affirmed Iran's readiness to develop its relations with Syria more than ever, and said: We hope to witness soon a visit and a meeting between the presidents of the two countries.

Abdullahian explained that the talks also dealt with the latest developments regarding the Vienna negotiations aimed at reviving the nuclear agreement, which is approaching to reach a final formula that meets the interests of the Iranian people.
