The Nuremberg metropolitan region wants to campaign for environmentally friendly energy with a hydrogen campaign.

The future has already begun for Markus Eichhorn in Hassfurt.

Nuremberg - The future has obviously already begun in Haßfurt in Lower Franconia.

"We not only have beer and wine here, but now also hydrogen," said Norbert Zösch from the Hassfurter Stadtwerke on Tuesday.

Campaign in the metropolitan region of Nuremberg: Wind and solar generate hydrogen

Energy has been produced from the environmentally friendly fuel between breweries and vineyards for more than five years.

When the wind blows or the sun burns, a plant converts the liquid drinking water from green electricity into gaseous hydrogen.

If required, the stored energy is distributed via the normal gas network.

More speed because of the Ukraine war

"We can also use the existing natural gas network for pure hydrogen," emphasized Zösch and now called for much more speed against the background of the Ukraine war and the Russian sanctions.

“We now need to be able to switch from natural gas to hydrogen much more quickly.

The war has left us with nothing else.

We now have to speed up all processes.”

The first hydrogen plant in Bavaria in Haßfurt only cost two million euros.

The investment has almost paid for itself.

"We are now planning a larger facility." A hydrogen filling station is also planned so that garbage trucks and buses in the small town between the rough hills of the Haßberge and the lovely waves of the Main can soon be able to run on green fuel.

Hydrogen for a future worth living

Markus Eichhorn provided technical support for the construction of the hydrogen plant in Hassfurt.

“I want to leave my three children a world worth living in.

That's why we also make hydrogen here in Haßfurt," said Eichhorn.

That's why he was happy to show his face and stood in front of the camera for the new "Space for Hydrogen Makers" campaign in the Nuremberg metropolitan region.

Kick-off for “Water Day”

The campaign entitled “Hydrogen Metropolitan Region Nuremberg hy+” was launched on Tuesday, just in time for Water Day.

The advertising offensive includes a total of four motifs from different players who play a pioneering role in the research, production and use of hydrogen.

Franconia with a pioneering role in hydrogen

According to its own statements, the metropolitan region around Nuremberg, with around 150 top-class players, already has a lighthouse function in Germany.

“In view of the major energy policy challenges we are currently facing, there is an urgent need for alternatives to fossil fuels such as natural gas and oil.

The campaign sends an important signal to the people in the metropolitan region that companies, scientific institutions and municipalities in the metropolitan region of Nuremberg are already actively working on sustainable solutions," said Michael Fraas, Economics and Science Officer of the City of Nuremberg and Chairman of the ENERGIEregion Nuremberg at the start the campaign on Tuesday.
