Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban reiterated the need to prevent decisions that would drag European countries into the center of the crisis in Ukraine during the upcoming European Union and NATO summits.
Russia Today quoted Orban as saying in a statement today: “We must prevent being drawn into proposals that will lead to an air war with Russia, and express our disagreement with the proposals aimed at expanding the scope of sanctions to include the Russian energy sector,” noting that this step would put his country In a difficult situation that may become a dilemma from which there is no way out.
He added that proposals that do not serve Hungary's interests will be presented to the leaders of the European Union and NATO in Brussels on the 24th and 25th of this month, stressing his determination to defend his country's interests.
The Hungarian Prime Minister's statements came as a new confirmation of Budapest's adherence to its position opposing the idea of imposing an air embargo over Ukraine and sending lethal weapons to it. He also repeatedly expressed his country's rejection of calls for European countries to abandon the import of Russian oil and gas.
