Despite the chip crisis, Porsche is still on the upswing.

CEO Oliver Blume sees particularly great potential in an alternative drive.

Stuttgart - The sports car manufacturer Porsche has been pursuing the strategy of relying on electric cars for some time.

The car manufacturer from Stuttgart has achieved enormous success with this.

The boom in the Taycan surprised even Porsche boss Oliver Blume - with around 40,000 units sold of the all-electric model in 2021, this was double the figure for the previous year.

BW24 reports on this.

The figures from the third quarter of 2021 are also noteworthy: For the first time, the sports car manufacturer sold 28,640 Taycan models over a period of three months, more than its iconic Porsche 911 model, the

Handelsblatt

reported .

Porsche CEO Oliver Blume recognized this development at the Auto Summit 2021 as confirmation of the path taken to use many resources for the expansion of e-mobility.

"50 percent of Taycan drivers are new customers," says the 53-year-old.

Porsche relies on innovative ideas and invests in its own e-fuel drive

E-models now account for 40 percent of sales at Porsche.

By 2030, 80 percent of all vehicles sold should be purely electric or hybrid.

Oliver Blume is optimistic about the future and is convinced that the positive trend can be maintained through innovative ideas and investments.

Among other things, Porsche is developing an e-fuel drive that, according to Bill Gates, can even be superior to pure e-mobility.

Porsche takes on a pioneering role in the VW Group

In addition, the Zuffenhausen-based company is investing a total of more than one billion euros in sustainability projects to develop new renewable energy sources.

For example, Porsche wants to produce artificial fuel from wind energy in a unique factory in Chile so that its combustion models can also be fueled in a climate-friendly manner.

"It's going to be a billion-dollar market," Blume said with conviction.

The first synthetic fuel is scheduled to be used in racing in 2022.

What also makes Blume optimistic is Porsche's pioneering role within the VW Group.

"The advantage in the premium segment is that customers are willing to spend more money on innovation," says the CEO.

For example, when buying a Porsche Taycan, customers would appreciate the integrated 800-volt system, which enables the battery to be charged more quickly.

And the luxury package in the e-area is constantly being expanded: Porsche is currently building charging parks in the middle of the Alps, where customers on the way to Italy or Austria can charge their car at an exclusive charging station while relaxing in a café or lounge .
