Heavy fighting is reported from the airport in Mogadishu.
According to police reports, attackers from the Islamist terrorist group Al-Shabaab, dressed in military uniform, broke into the heavily guarded airport in the Somali capital.
Al-Shabaab claims responsibility for the attack
The attackers fired randomly at one of the entrances, police officer Mohamed Dahir reported to the dpa news agency.
The police initially had no information about the dead or injured.
Al-Shabaab claimed responsibility for the attack via radio station Andalus.
The airport is located in the highly secured Green Zone called Halane Camp, which is also where embassies and government offices are located.
The security situation in the country is currently tense as elections are held that have been postponed several times.
The country on the Horn of Africa with around 16 million inhabitants has been rocked by attacks by Al-Shabaab for years.
Al-Shabaab controls large parts of the south and central regions.
She repeatedly carries out attacks on security forces and civilians.
