Singer Miley Cyrus was reported safe after the plane on which she was traveling to Paraguay, where the artist was scheduled to attend a music festival, was struck by lightning and had to make an emergency landing.
"To my fans and everyone who is concerned after hearing about my flight to Asuncion.
Our plane was caught in a huge unexpected storm and struck by lightning
," Cyrus wrote on Instagram, sharing a video of the storm from a window of the aircraft and a photo of the apparently damaged aircraft.
"My crew, band, friends and family traveling with me are safe after an emergency landing," he added.
The singer also regretted not being able to fulfill her commitment at the Asunción music festival, where she was one of the most important artists.
"I love you"
, she wrote to her followers who were waiting to see her.
Commercial airliners are struck by lightning about once or twice a year, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) said.
"They are designed and constructed to have conductive paths through the aircraft to receive lightning strikes and channel currents," according to the agency.

Lightning strikes haven't caused a commercial airliner to crash in decades, but smaller, private planes, which "are not required to be designed to protect against lightning," have crashed due to this phenomenon, according to NOAA. .
In another video posted by percussionist Demian Arriaga, lightning can be seen from the windows of the aircraft.
The reactions of the terrified occupants are also heard.
It is not yet clear what type of plane Cyrus and his crew were traveling on.
Fans of the artists were glad that the singer was safe.
"We love you Miley. Hope everyone is doing well
," one follower commented on the post.
Even though she was looking forward to Cyrus's set, another fan empathized with the fact.
