Damascus - Sana

We stand on the right side of history.. a phrase that summed up the Chinese position on the Russian military operation in Ukraine despite the great threats and pressures it was subjected to from Western countries and the United States of America.

The Chinese Foreign Ministry, which announced its rejection of the unjustified Western accusations against it regarding the situation in Ukraine, affirmed through its Foreign Minister Wang Yi that China is on the right side of history, stressing that the expansion of NATO to the east is the real reason behind what is happening in Ukraine, according to Xinhua.

On what is the correct side of its positions, China announced its refusal to condemn the Russian military operation in Ukraine, through official statements by Chinese officials, and its abstention from voting against a UN Security Council resolution condemning Russia, which prompted the United States to threaten Beijing through White House spokeswoman Jen Psaki. She said that China would face serious consequences if it supported Russia, and that there was a set of tools at its country's disposal in coordination with their European partners if it had to be used, according to Sky News.

Beijing saw the US threats and the threat of sanctions as reflecting hidden bullying and intimidation, exposing the inherent zero-sum mentality of the Cold War, and another product of America's philosophy of doing things from a position of strength, according to Foreign Ministry spokesman Zhao Lijian, according to the Chinese Xinhua news agency.

The Chinese position was not limited to not condemning Russia, but Beijing increased it through its Deputy Foreign Minister Li Yucheng that the sanctions imposed by Western countries on Russia over Ukraine have become increasingly outrageous, blaming NATO's expansion to the east of responsibility for the Ukrainian crisis, according to Sputnik.

What China sees about the course of events in Ukraine was unequivocally clarified by Chinese President Xi Jinping during a phone call with his American counterpart Joe Biden, calling on Washington to abandon the Cold War mentality and work to form a balanced, effective and sustainable structure for regional security and ensure stability in Europe.

As the West strives to undermine all the foundations on which the world order depends, cooperation and coordination between Beijing and Moscow is being strengthened to lay those foundations at a time that is bidding farewell to the unipolarity that dominated the world during the past decades.
