The Ministry of Interior announced that 12 people were arrested on charges of exploiting citizens and taking large sums of money from them under the pretext of obtaining passports for them and reserving a role on the electronic platform.
The ministry stated in a statement that SANA received a copy of it today that the Investigation Branch of the Immigration and Passports Department, through its daily patrols to the immigration and passport branches in Damascus and its countryside to combat the phenomenon of exploitation of citizens who want to obtain passports, was arrested 8 people who exploit and blackmail citizens, in front of mentioned branches.
The ministry indicated that those arrested confessed, during their interrogation, to blackmailing citizens with large sums of money on the pretext that they were able to obtain passports for them quickly.
In the details, the ministry indicated that two of the arrested were arrested in front of the Immigration and Passports Branch in Rukn Al-Din in Damascus, and 3 as a result of a complaint filed by a citizen against one of them, a woman who admitted her participation with the other two by requesting large sums of money from citizens amounting to one million seven hundred thousand Syrian pounds, in addition to the arrest of 2 In front of the Immigration and Passports branch in Baramkeh, and a woman in front of the Immigration and Passports branch in Damascus while trying to obtain a passport for a citizen.
The ministry added that as a result of the technical follow-up to the work of the electronic platform by the Investigation Branch and the Informatics Department of the Immigration and Passports Department, it was noticed that there were a large number of reservations from one device whose users were reached and arrested, and they are 4 people.
The ministry pointed out that the four people admitted that they were reserving roles for citizens on the platform for booking passport offices in exchange for three hundred thousand Syrian pounds for each reservation, due to the presence of a person with them who specializes in informatics and has a fast internet that is able to easily enter the platform where they bring him the names and he in turn makes the reservation .
The ministry confirmed that the necessary action was taken against them and that they were brought to the competent judiciary.
