About two months after the death of former Supreme Court President Miriam Naor, who also chaired the state commission of inquiry into the Meron disaster, the committee chaired by Judge Deborah Berliner reconvened today (Thursday).
In her opening remarks, Judge Berliner spoke and referred to the passing of the late Naor.

She went on to say that "when the Meron disaster occurred, President Naor was already retired and enjoying the pleasures of retirement after nearly forty years of justice, and she must have honestly earned it. I knew the President well enlightened. We walked parallel paths for many years and met at key intersections. Mira was a symbol of all that is good and worthy: ethical, moral, honest, unbelievably smart and diligent. I saw her sitting on bags for countless hours, almost without moving, concentrating "And for all this, she was a human being. The chairwoman of the committee also referred to the pain of the families of the victims of the disaster and said that "in the weeks since I took office, I have learned how much she hurt the pain of the affected families, and how determined she was to do her best to prevent another disaster." "The interim recommendations, which deal, most of all, with safe preparation for the upcoming celebration. In the coming Lag B'Omer, many believers will gather in Meron again, and alongside the celebration, we will honor the memory of the forty-five victims and participate in the mourning of the families."

On the personal side, Judge Berliner said she took over as chairwoman of the committee "in reverence," adding that "together with committee members, we will do our best to fulfill the role assigned to us by the government, to investigate the causes of the disaster while trying to prevent similar incidents."
