Pierre Brochand was Director General of the Directorate General for External Security (DGSE) from 2002 to 2008, as well as Ambassador of France, in particular, in Hungary and Israel. He spoke at a colloquium of the Res Publica Foundation on the theme: “For a real immigration policy”.
LE FIGARO.- Last fall, immigration seemed to take center stage in the presidential campaign.
The subject is now overshadowed by the war in Ukraine and purchasing power.
Why do you think this theme of immigration managed to find its way into the debate?

It is true that, for a few months, at the end of last year, we “talked” more about immigration.
In my opinion, for two reasons.
On the one hand, as time passed and the phenomenon grew, it proved increasingly difficult - according to Péguy's formula, now established - to prevent the French from "seeing what they see".
On the other hand, a disruptive personality…
