The Russian Foreign Ministry warned today that Moscow's response to the expulsion of Russian diplomats from Poland would be significant for Warsaw.
"The decision taken by the Polish authorities yesterday to declare 45 employees of the Russian embassy persona non grata is a deliberate step towards the final destruction of bilateral relations that our Polish partners have been systematically dismantling for a long time," the ministry said in a statement.
"The full responsibility for what is happening and the possible consequences rests entirely with the current authorities in Warsaw," the statement added, stressing that Russia will not leave this hostile attack unanswered and will affect them.
The statement pointed out that Warsaw has embarked on a dangerous escalation in the region, not based on national interests, but based on directives from NATO based on blatant hatred of Russia, which adopted an official approach.
Poland said yesterday that it had decided to expel 45 Russian diplomats on suspicion of involvement in espionage, and Warsaw did not rule out expelling the Russian ambassador as well.
