The Ukraine war also has enormous repercussions for German consumers.

Various foods are becoming more expensive.

But industry is also suffering from a lack of products and high energy prices.

Now, two years later, the cooking oil on the supermarket shelves is becoming scarce.

But the reason for this this time is not a virus and the lockdown that went with it, but the Ukraine war*.

And that should soon lead to delivery problems for numerous foods and other products.

Because both Ukraine and Russia are actually important suppliers of certain raw materials and goods.

Ukraine News: Cooking oil shortage also has consequences for fries and chips

Ukraine is considered a major producer of grain.

Especially wheat, but also sunflowers were planted there in large quantities.

Now the most important supplier country for sunflower seeds is missing, with the result that the oil obtained from them is becoming scarce.

However, this does not only affect the individual consumers, who may now have to switch to other oils.

Manufacturers of French fries and potato chips have now sounded the alarm*.

But the failure of wheat deliveries could have even more dramatic consequences.

Because prices on the world market are likely to rise enormously, which is likely to affect Africa and the Middle East in particular.

This could greatly increase the number of starving people in countries dependent on wheat imports.

Not everyone can afford the higher prices for important staple foods such as wheat.

Ukraine News: Mustard is becoming significantly more expensive

An important product could also become scarce for the upcoming summer barbecue evenings.

Because a large proportion of the mustard seeds for German mustard come from the Ukraine.

According to

information, manufacturers have stated that there are still supplies from the last harvest for the next few months.

But the new sowing should actually take place in the next two weeks.

But in the Ukraine this will probably not happen for the time being.

The manufacturers are giving the all-clear and explaining that the mustard will not run out, but a significant price increase is to be expected.

But not only food is affected.

Experts are also warning of a diesel shortage.

Not only does the oil itself come from Russia, but most of the refineries are also located in Vladimir Putin's country.

Therefore, the finished fuel is mainly imported from the East.

Ukraine News: Not only food is affected by the consequences

The rise in energy prices is also having an impact on some products.

In particular, things such as fertilizers, which are very energy-intensive to produce, could become scarce as a result.

Because if the energy costs exceed the turnover, the production is no longer worthwhile.

The paper industry has the same problem, production here is also very energy-intensive.

Once again, the auto industry is suffering.

Now not only semiconductors are missing, but also cable harnesses.

These were mostly sourced from the Ukraine by German manufacturers.
