“We are talking about 120 trucks a day”: in Normandy, the loops of the Seine do not want waste from Greater Paris

The Bardouville en danger collective mobilized this Friday to raise public awareness of the consequences of backfilling a quarry.

This Friday, March 25, from 6 a.m. at the Maison-Brûlée crossroads, the members of the Norman collective Bardouville in danger settled on this strategic axis, at the exit of the A13, between Seine-Maritime and Eure.

Leaflets in hand, their objective was to inform passing motorists of the reason for their concern: the imminent decision of the prefecture which could authorize the filling in of an old chalk quarry left abandoned by their neighbors in Mauny ( Seine-Maritime) with 390,000 tonnes of inert waste brought by barge from the Grand Paris works.

A heresy for the mayor of Bardouville, Dominique Rousseau, elected in 2020 in this small rural town of just over 600 inhabitants, nestled in the heart of one of the most authentic loops of the Seine, right on the Route des fruits et the cycle path of the Seine by bike.

“The barges would dock in the neighboring town of Anneville-Ambourville and to cover the last kilometres, 30-tonne trucks will have to cross the village for the duration of the project, estimated at 4 years.

We are talking about 120 vehicles per day on a departmental road where two trucks cannot even cross paths”.

“It is the prefect who has our destiny in hand”

Mobilized during last year's public inquiry where nearly a quarter of the population expressed their opposition to the site, the inhabitants, and in particular those of the hamlet of Beaulieu, worried about the very nature of the waste and possible pollution, have therefore decided to react, in particular launching a petition which has already collected more than 2,500 signatures.

“This Friday morning, local elected officials, deputies, came to show their support”, underlines Nathalie Haubert, the president of Bardouville in danger who is now waiting for news from the prefect to whom the association wrote to request an audience.

“He is the one who has our destiny in hand.

I think he might take the time to hear what we have to say”.
