The United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, Michelle Bachelet, has warned that the human rights situation in the occupied Palestinian territories has reached catastrophic levels due to the continuous violations of the Israeli occupation and its settlers against the Palestinians.

According to Wafa, Bachelet confirmed in her annual report on the human rights situation in occupied Palestine as well as her report on settlements to the Human Rights Council in Geneva that the Israeli occupation forces continue their violations and continue to use “excessive force” against the Palestinians.

Bachelet pointed out that the escalation of attacks by the occupation forces and settlers against the Palestinians led to the death of 74 Palestinians, including 17 children, 54 men and three women, in addition to the displacement of at least 98 people from their homes as a result of the demolition of the village of Humsa al-Baqi`ah in the northern Jordan Valley.

Bachelet indicated that the Israeli siege imposed on the Gaza Strip for years led to a sharp deterioration in Palestinian human rights in flagrant violation of international law, calling on the international community to shoulder its responsibilities and hold the occupation officials accountable for their violations and crimes against the Palestinian people.
