Most of the refugees from Ukraine have so far found private accommodation in the Dachau district.

Nevertheless, the gymnasium on Steinstrasse has now been prepared as accommodation – for emergencies.

Dachau – 90 percent of the now more than 1,000 refugees from Ukraine are housed privately.

This was announced by the Dachau district office yesterday.

And there are still private accommodations available, as Sina Török, spokeswoman for the district office, announced yesterday.

That's a good thing, because the next allocations won't be long in coming.

Allocations have been announced by the city of Munich for tomorrow, Saturday, and next Wednesday.

It is difficult to predict how many refugees will actually come – “but a maximum of 100 in each case”.

It is also not possible to predict whether everyone will then want to stay here in the district or travel on.

Help for people from Ukraine

In order to bridge the time for these people and for short-term emergency assignments and the search for accommodation, the gymnasium in Steinstraße in Dachau was prepared as emergency accommodation.

85 volunteers from the fire brigade, BRK and THW converted the gymnasium of the former secondary school on Steinstrasse into emergency accommodation.

A total of 140 beds and the necessary sanitary facilities were installed over the weekend.

The gym is currently not usable for physical education and club sports

District Administrator Stefan Löwl explains the current process: "Allocations from the arrival center in Munich - unfortunately also often uncoordinated from other offices throughout Germany - reach us in Schönbrunn.

There they can either rest and strengthen themselves for the onward journey or they can be referred to private accommodation in the district.” People who only want to stay for a short time can find accommodation in Schönbrunn.

If this accommodation is full, we will have to switch to the gym on Steinstrasse.

The gym is currently not usable for physical education and club sports.

People from Ukraine are evenly settled in the district

State accommodations that are currently used to accommodate refugees are the Hotel Amedia in Dachau, a guesthouse in Indersdorf, the accommodation for asylum seekers in Erdweg and in Vierkirchen - for cases of corona isolation.

A good 30 percent of Ukrainians currently live in the city of Dachau, and another 15 percent in Karlsfeld.

All others are distributed evenly across the district (see box).

Almost 400 percent of the refugees are under the age of 18 and want to go to school.

A steering committee headed by the Dachau State Education Authority is currently drafting a concept of how the schooling of children and young people will look like, as the Director of the Education Authority, Albert Sikora, announced.

Welcome classes are to be formed, which are to start at the beginning of April.

Some schools have already accepted around 80 students, "the schools are very resourceful".

These constructs can also continue to exist, says Sikora.

The steering committee will present its concept in the middle of next week.
