The driver took the motorway in the opposite direction between Veigné (Indre-et-Loire) and Vierzon (Cher) via Loir-et-Cher, a distance of 104 km.
He noticed it and got off at a motorway slip road to go back in the right direction
,” Blois public prosecutor Frédéric Chevallier told an AFP correspondent.

On Sunday around 2000, the gendarmes and firefighters of Indre-et-Loire, Loir-et-Cher and Cher received around fifty calls.
Sent to the scene, the gendarmes were unable to intercept the oncoming car and its two occupants.
The octogenarian couple, originally from Haute Savoie, was identified by the license plate of the car.
The gendarmes of Haute-Savoie will audition the driver.
