About 24% of the gas consumed in France is imported from Russia*, the rest coming mainly from Norway.
This is twice as much as Germany, 49% dependent on Russian gas, but it is still too much when we know that this windfall is the main source of financing for Vladimir Putin's war in Ukraine.
However, according to the International Energy Agency, the French subsoil contains 3870 billion cubic meters of shale gas.
The most promising areas are in the Drôme and the Cévennes, in the Ardèche, in the Gard, the Hérault and the Lozère.
