The Director of Agriculture in Daraa, Engineer Bassam Al-Hashish, confirmed that the rains in the past few days came at the appropriate and ideal time to irrigate various crops and to increase some areas planted with forage and legume crops.
Hashish said in a statement to SANA reporter that the rains witnessed in the governorate support the wheat crop and save the farmer the costs of watering and irrigation and the need for fuel and help increase the areas planted with forage and legume crops, especially chickpeas, in addition to their benefits for underground water stores.
With regard to the issue of frost damage, the Director of Agriculture explained that the committees continue their work of limiting the damage on the ground, especially in the areas planted with early vegetables in the Yarmouk Valley, indicating that compensation will be made in accordance with the laws and under a request submitted by the affected farmer to the extension units after filling out a specific form approved by a committee. Five years, after inspecting the damaged crop and determining the area to be submitted to the Drought Fund Department in the Directorate, and then to the Ministry of Agriculture to take a decision on it.
The area planted with irrigated wheat in Daraa is 10900 hectares, rainfed 82400 hectares and chickpeas 10800 hectares.
