Hungary has renewed its refusal to supply arms to Ukraine through its territory and stop importing energy resources from Russia, stressing that this will cause the Hungarian economy to slow down and stop within a short period.

Russia Today website quoted Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban as saying after consultations between the heads of government of the European Union: Some countries have again proposed expanding sanctions against Russia to include energy, coal, gas and oil. After evaluating this request, we rejected it because our country imports 85 percent of gas and 60 percent of oil from Russia.

Orbán continued: "These sanctions mean that the Hungarian economy will slow down in a few minutes and then stop and this is unacceptable to us. It is against the interests of the people of our country and it also means that we will have to pay the price of war.. Fortunately some other countries have made similar arguments.. So common sense prevailed and gas and oil would continue to flow into Hungary.

In turn, Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto said on his Facebook page that his country had rejected Kyiv's request to allow the supply of arms to Ukraine through Hungarian territory or to stop the import of Russian gas and oil, stressing that Budapest does not want to endanger the life and security of the Hungarian people or to pay the price of this war.

Szijjarto added, "Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky returned and presented his well-known demands during yesterday's talks regarding arms for his country and stopping energy resources from Russia. The Hungarian government confirmed its rejection of the two requests, stressing that the security of Hungary and the Hungarian people is the most important issue for us. To achieve this goal, the government will do everything we can." It can prevent the country from being drawn into hostilities because it does not want to endanger the lives of its citizens by transferring weapons that could make it a military target for bombing.

The Hungarian Prime Minister Orban stressed yesterday the need to prevent decisions that would drag European countries into the center of the crisis in Ukraine during the European Union and NATO summits.
