March this year was too dry - in some places the rain gauges in Germany were even completely empty.

Munich – March has been too dry so far – lots of sunshine and little precipitation.

There are even places in Germany where no precipitation fell at all this month.

There was most rain in Bavaria, as reported by the German Weather Service (DWD).

Nonetheless, this month could turn out to be March with the most hours of sunshine on record.

The reason for the low precipitation in March was the extensive high pressure areas that prevented the Atlantic lows from encroaching on Germany.

The most precipitation in Germany was in the extreme south-east of Bavaria - in Marktschellenberg.

Weather in Bavaria: Rain leader in Germany comes from the Free State

In the night from Tuesday to Wednesday, March 16 alone, exactly 23 liters of rain fell from the sky there.

In the remaining places in Germany where it rained significantly, it was around ten to 20 liters per square meter, according to the DWD.

Bavaria also stands out when it comes to the monthly total of precipitation in March so far.

Because: According to the DWD, the rain gauges at some stations were completely empty.

One of them in the west of the state - in Lindau on Lake Constance.

Marktschellenberg, on the other hand, is also the leader in the monthly total, with almost 31 liters measured there throughout March.

Weather in Bavaria: It rained the most in the extreme south-east

In second place is Anger-Stoissberg, also in the extreme south-east of Bavaria.

There fell 26 liters in March.

According to the measurements, the regions with the most precipitation were mainly distributed over the western half of Germany, over the southern center and the eastern low mountain range.

Put into perspective, this March is too dry, especially on the edge of the Alps.

It is already becoming apparent that the precipitation deficit will not be balanced out this month.

As beautiful as the sunny spring weather is, there are downsides: because nature needs rain to boost growth.

Since he does not appear, the risk of forest fires is currently increasing.

Only recently the forest near Neuschwanstein Castle caught fire.

Weather in Bavaria: what's next?

And also on Wednesday, March 23, there was a forest fire in the district of Bamberg, for example - a forest area between Breitengüßbach and Zapfendorf was affected.

When asked by Radio Bamberg, the police said the fire brigade quickly brought the fire under control.

The cause of the fire is still unclear.

A spokesman for the German Weather Service told the

Münchner Merkur

that little would change in the existing risk of forest fires until next Tuesday.

Because as before, it will remain with the low precipitation and thus with the drought.

Weather in Bavaria: Unstable next week

From Wednesday, however, "we expect a change in the weather".

It should therefore rain in some areas in Bavaria on Tuesday.

But then on Wednesday and towards the weekend more often, the weather becomes more unstable.

As a result, the air gets colder, which means that snow is possible again in the mountains and possibly even in the lowlands.

However, precise predictions are difficult.

Because at the moment there are "very large temperature differences over small spatial distances." Nevertheless: The precipitation that nature so urgently needs should come next week.
