Russian President Vladimir Putin has signed a federal law criminalizing the dissemination of false information about the activities of Russian authorities abroad.
The law, which was published on the official website of legal documents, stipulates a maximum penalty of 15 years imprisonment for publishing false information about agencies such as the Russian National Guard, the Ministry of Emergencies, the Public Prosecution Office or diplomatic missions.
Putin also signed a law on administrative responsibility for defaming the organs of Russian power operating abroad.
The law provides for fines ranging from 30 thousand rubles to 500 thousand rubles for violators.
